The Asthma Education Program worked closely with the Community HealthCorps and AmeriCorps program of the Sunset Park Family Health Center Network, in sponsoring numerous community health events promoting asthma education.  Events were held throughout 1996 in various community centers, churches, and health center satellites with announcements in local newspapers.  The AmeriCorps members played a very important role in these public events by recruiting patients and family members to participate and designing flyers announcing events.  The AEP received an Award for Outstanding Health Education from the State of New York Department of Health.  The June 1997 issue of Brooklyn Bridge magazine will be featuring an article about the accomplishments of the AEP in the Brooklyn community.          Copyright © 1997 The Health Project.
